Blockout roller blinds for proper Westcliff darkness.

A fabric panel on an aluminium tube, made to measure per window — the workhorse fix for bedrooms that get too much ridge light too early in the morning.

Blockout roller blind in fog grey — one smooth fabric panel on a tube, lowered over a Westcliff bedroom window
The product itself: a single flat blockout panel on an aluminium tube — no folds, no fuss.

Roller blinds are the plainest product in the range and, for a lot of Westcliff bedrooms, the correct one — clean, minimal, made exactly to the window, and available in a blockout fabric that stops light rather than just softening it. The tube sits neatly against an older frame without fighting the room's proportions the way a bulkier system can.

Why blockout, specifically

The double-roller option

For a bedroom that also has a view worth keeping, a double roller pairs blockout with a sunscreen layer on the same bracket — sunscreen down for daytime privacy with the garden still visible, blockout down at night. It's the practical answer for a room that has to do both jobs.

Where it wins, where it doesn't

Rollers win on modern additions, big glass and tight-to-mid budgets, and they're the easiest product in the range to keep clean. On a genuinely heritage window — deep reveal, original sash, panelled surround — a timber venetian usually sits better aesthetically; we'll say so plainly rather than sell you a roller because it's simpler to fit.

Daytime privacy on a sunscreen roller reverses at night — lights on inside means visible from out. Pair it with a blockout layer or curtains for a street-facing bedroom.

Fabric width

A single roller runs to roughly 3m of fabric width comfortably; beyond that we either split the blind with a central join or motorise a linked pair — both are decided at the measure against your actual opening, not guessed off a photo.

Reading the cost off the window

Per square metre of finished blind, fitted: a chain blockout roller lands between R1,000 and R1,600, sitting low in that band for a plain fabric in a modest width and high for an acoustic-backed cloth or a double roll. Put it on a tube motor and the working figure is R2,500 to R3,800, remote or wall switch included.

Side channels, where a room has to be genuinely dark, are quoted as their own component rather than folded into the rate. Small openings carry a minimum charge. And the figure that matters is the one written against your own windows after the free measure.

Where we fit blockout rollers

Bedrooms across Houghton Estate and Saxonwold's older stands, through to the newer glass going into Forest Town and Parktown North extensions — the reveal changes house to house, the fitting principle doesn't.
